 Columbus is a range of three roof top camper models generally available in three sizes, suitable for mounting to most cars, trailers and four wheel drive vehicles. | The Columbus range generally have a fibreglass shell for the roof and floor and use ‘Airtex’ fabric which is inherently waterproof and will never need any dressing to maintain the waterproof characteristic. All models offer a low wind drag coefficient and low weight resulting in little change in vehicle performance and handling. All of these models use gas struts to raise the roof at the rear whilst it is hinged at the front enabling the unit to be ready for use or packed away quickly. The added advantage of this style is that you have extremely good head room at the rear. The mounting ladder and normal bedding can all be left inside the unit for travelling so that as soon as the camper is erected, it is ready for use. | All models are equipped with a mounting ladder, high density foam mattress and pillows. The Columbus range is generally the lightest available and includes two sizes made of carbon fibre instead of fibreglass making these the lightest camper of this type we have seen. All models have two screened doors and the variant versions have a third screened door at the rear enabling superior ventilation and entry from the rear. All models mount to suitable roof bars and can be simply unbolted and removed from the vehicle for storage during non camping periods. Accessories include an awning, a free standing tent room, ground mounting feet and a winter hood for added protection against cold and hot conditions. |
